Our History

North Broward County (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

Chapter History

The North Broward County (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, has a rich history rooted in friendship, service, and a profound commitment to improving the lives of others. Established in May 1995 by three dedicated friends, Dorothy Ruffin, Margaret Roseburr, and Gloria Butler, our chapter has proudly served the Broward County community for over 25 years.

Our chapter’s legacy is built upon the core values of The Links, Incorporated, one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations, established in 1946. With a focus on enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry, our work spans local communities while having an international impact.

The dynamic women of the North Broward County (FL) Chapter represent a diverse range of professions, including medicine, education, law, advocacy, and business entrepreneurship. These exceptional women are deeply engaged in society, contributing countless volunteer hours annually, and making a significant difference in Broward County and beyond.

Our chapter is recognized for its transformational programming, which is accomplished through our five Program Facets: Services to Youth, International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services, Health and Human Services, and The Arts. Each of these facets plays a vital role in addressing local, national, and international issues, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and human services.

We are proud of the recognition we’ve received for Best Practices in programming from our National organization. Among our notable initiatives is the Health and Human Services-SUGE program “SteamUlting Girls to Excel,” developed in partnership with Southeast Florida Girl Scout Troop 10586, which focuses on health education for young girls. Another standout program is the Services to Youth-NSBE Jr. “STEM Gems,” which motivates youth at Attucks Middle School to embrace STEM education and pursue advanced careers in science. As a Southern Area winner of several grant funding opportunities, we continue to expand our programming in The Arts-Connecting the Threads and Services to Youth-Closing the Gaps to Foster Care, providing vital resources and support to our community.

Despite the extraordinary challenges facing our communities today, the North Broward County (FL) Chapter remains steadfast in its commitment to service. Under the leadership of our current President, we continue to “Lead with Commitment while Fulfilling our Purpose,” strengthening the bonds of friendship with love, excellence, ambition, and dedication. Our chapter is poised to continue its impactful work, preserving our history of service and making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.
